Like humans, cows must have a baby to produce milk, so they are repeatedly impregnated. The calves are taken from their mothers just days after birth so their milk can be sold to people. Mother cows often cry for days for their missing bab y. Most of the calves end up on veal farms, where these babies are chained by the neck in crates and slaughtered when they are just 12 to 16 weeks old. Consuming dairy products keeps this system in place and makes the veal industry possible.
